The
Oukaimeden ski resort near Marrakesh provides access to snowline scree and
boulder slopes - home for the local Crimson-winged
Finch (male above; female below). This hardy species is usually found
only above 10,000, at and above the snowline in small, remote areas of Morocco,
Turkey, and isolated mountain ranges of the same latitudes in west-central Asia.
Like many high-altitude species, it has few natural enemies and limited
experience with humans, and thus is quite approachable. | |
