It is sad to report that the
Slender-billed Curlew seems to be
following the Eskimo Curlew into extinction. Its unique west-east migration
strategy has proved to be its undoing, as it has to traverse the Mediterranean
and Caucasian nations where wetlands drainage, pollution, and hunting are all
too prevalent. |
